Steven R. Enochs passed from this life on September 3, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, friendships, adventures, and a family who loved him dearly. Steve was born on July 4, 1942, in Columbus, Indiana, to Mildred West Enochs and Robert E. Enochs. He attended Columbus High School and graduated in 1960. Following high school, Steve proudly joined the United States Air Force, serving for four years in Alaska, where he survived the great Alaska earthquake. On March 17, 1967, Steve married the love of his life, Janet Miller. Their love and devotion to one another remained strong until the very day Steve passed away. Steve spent much of his career as a salesman, traveling both nationally and internationally. In the 1980s, he moved to Florida, where he became involved in the asphalt and paving business. In 2010, Steve returned to Indiana and settled in Terre Haute, where he continued his career with Central Indiana Asphalt. He quickly built a life filled with new friends and golf buddies. Steve loved to travel, swim, fish, and spend time on the water. He enjoyed watching sports and racing, but golf was undoubtedly his passion. If the weather permitted, Steve played golf every day he could, and sometimes even when the weather suggested he probably shouldn’t. He was pretty good at it, too, an accomplishment he was always proud of and never shy about mentioning. Golf was more than just a game to Steve; it was part of his daily life, a source of endless enjoyment, and a way he made countless friendships and memories over the years. But perhaps Steve’s greatest gift was his ability to make friends wherever he went. He truly never met a stranger. Steve could strike up a conversation with anyone who happened to cross his path, and over the years, he formed lifelong friendships with people who became more like family. Many of his friends affectionately referred to him simply as a “Fun Guy,” a name that suited him perfectly. To his family, he was “Fun Uncle Steve.” He was the uncle who made memories, told stories, made people laugh, and made the world feel a little more fun just by being in it. He was deeply loved by his family, and his absence will be felt for generations to come. Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Janet Enochs; his sisters, Margie Enochs Faure and Lana Enochs Reinhard (Philip); his nieces, Pam Kappel (Archie), Linda Reed, Liz Kays (Alan), and Barbie Irwin (David); his nephews, Christopher Reinhard and Derik Gratz; 13 great-nieces/nephews; and 20 great-great-nieces/nephews. He was loved dearly by every one of them. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and a great-nephew. True to Steve’s wishes, there will be no viewing or funeral service. He will be cremated, and his ashes will be spread in the ocean along the Florida coast, returning him to a place he loved. Steve lived his life on his own terms, surrounded by people he loved, doing the things he loved, and making friends everywhere he went. He leaves behind a lot of love, a lot of laughter, and an awful lot of stories. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in everyone lucky enough to have known him.
