Stephen Phillip Young Sr., age 82 of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, at the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care. He was born on March 6, 1944, in Medora, Indiana to the late Rev. Lorenzo and Virginia (Hughes) Young.
Steve was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He married his beloved wife, Linda Kay Lawson, on February 26, 1965, and together they shared over 61 years of marriage filled with faith, family, and unwavering commitment.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Linda Young; his children, Stephen Young Jr. (Julie), Lisa Ames (Mark), Penelope Callaway (Jason), and Jonathan Young (Jaime); eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; his sisters, Helen Clouse (Bill), Vangie Stewart, and Debbie Price (Steve); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, James Young, David Young, and Rebecca Meadlo.
Steve was a proud graduate of Garfield High School, Class of 1962. In subsequent years, he furthered his education through classwork in accounting at Ivy Tech Community College. He dedicated 39 years of service to the United States Postal Service, where he was known for his strong work ethic and reliability. After retiring from the Postal Service, he continued working for LCP Transportation by providing medical transportation for those in need.
A man of deep faith, Steve was a longtime member of Northside Wesleyan Church in Terre Haute, where he faithfully served in many roles over the years. He taught Sunday School, served as Sunday School Superintendent, led musical worship, maintained the church building and grounds, and provided transportation for many who needed a ride to and from services. His servant's heart and quiet generosity left a lasting impact on his church family and community.
Steve enjoyed working with his hands and took great pride in his hobbies, which included working on cars, tackling do-it-yourself projects, and creating yard ornaments. He found joy in fixing, building, and helping others with his skills. He especially was fond of recycling and restoring old things.
