Sister Marie David Schroeder died on March 30 in Mother Theodore Hall, St. Mary-of-the-Woods. She was born on Jan. 12, 1923 in Jasper, IN, to Edward and Theresa Reyling Schroeder and was baptized Mary Catherine. Sister Marie David entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Providence on Jan. 5, 1941 and professed Final Vows Jan. 23, 1949. She earned a bachelor's degree from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College and a master's degree from Indiana State University. Of her 79 years as a Sister of Providence, she ministered in education for 45 years in elementary and schools in Indiana, Illinois and California. She taught at St. Benedict School from 1957 to 1959. Retiring from teaching in 1988, she came to the Motherhouse and served in the Central Business Office, the Gift Shop at Providence Center as well as the house treasurer for sisters in Owens Hall. Beginning in 2017, she dedicated herself totally to the ministry of prayer. Sister Marie David was a quiet, prayerful woman who was focused on the common good. She always gave generously of her many gifts to serve others. Sister is survived by nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by five sisters, Pearl Schroeder, Helen Schroeder. Sister Louise Schroeder, SP, Sunny Kunkel and Bernadine Livers and one brother Roman Schroeder. Due to the restrictions on group meetings, no public wake and funeral is scheduled.
