Sister Suzanne Buthod died on Feb. 28, 2022, in Union Hospital. She was born on Oct. 24, 1929 in Fort Worth, TX to Victor and Louise Brightman Buthod and was baptized Suzanne Louise. She earned a bachelor's degree in English from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and an MA in religion from Manhattanville College. Of her 73 years as a Sister of Providence, she ministered in education for 23 years in Indiana and Illinois schools. She taught at Schulte High School from 1969 to 1974. For three of those years at Schulte, she taught only part time and served as Director of Novices. In 1975, she began pastoral work in Evansville, at St. Boniface Church and in several diocesan offices where her duties included religious education for people with special needs and marriage tribunal work. Beginning in 2017, she dedicated herself totally to the ministry of prayer. Leaving active ministry was very difficult for Sister Suzanne. She loved being with people and derived great energy from joining with others to serve those in need. In all her ministries, she formed long-lasting relationships. Even in her decline, she was a compassionate presence to all, family, staff, guests, and her sisters. Sister Suzanne is survived by nieces and nephews.
