Shirley (Shaffer) Sappingfield, 82, our loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, peacefully passed over to be with her Lord Jesus on June 11, 2013 in Union Hospital surrounded by her loving family. A lifelong Terre Haute resident, she was born on July 17, 1930 to William Albert Shaffer and Helen Pearson Shaffer. She was a homemaker that enjoyed embroidery and was very creative with crafts. She was preceded in death by her first husband Roland E. Slater and also her second husband, Clyde E. Sappingfield and a son Michael Slater. She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Higgins and husband Jack, Brenda Smith and husband James; two sons David Slater and wife Marjorie, Walter Slater and wife Carol, and a step-son Vincent Sappingfield. . She has a sister Sherril Harlow, four brothers Roy Shaffer, Fred Shaffer and wife Marilyn, Ronald Shaffer , and John Hathaway. She has several grandchildren, great-grandchildren,and nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law Annena Shaffer and a brother-in-law Tom Harlow.
