Shirley Anne Highsmith, 77 of Terre Haute, passed away at 2:30 PM on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Cobblestone Health Campus. She was born in Rockville, IN on July 24, 1938 to Lester W. Brown and Dorothea Nelk Brown. Shirley was a retired LPN from Vermillion Convalescent Center. She was a member of the Terre Haute Eagles Lodge, she loved crocheting, reading, working crossword puzzles, fishing and the beach, and enjoyed playing pool and bingo. She is survived by her children; Stephen Kaperak (Rita), Nellie Smith (Howard), Debbie Jefferies (Ty), Steven K. Highsmith (Angie), Vicky Beal, Ramona Higginbotham (Andy), Tom Highsmith (Jodi), and Randy Highsmith (Jan Arbaugh). Also surviving are her grandchildren; Misti Carmina, Mike Kaperak (Kendra Hill), Leslie Oakley (Kevin), Chris Smith, Landis Kaperak (Halee), Ashley Harmon (Mike), Sierra Jefferies, Chad Jefferies, JJ Jefferies.TJ Hammond, Stevie Highsmith, Ashley Carney, Derrick Carney, and Kyra Sutopo as well as several great grandchildren great great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents,her husband Chester Highsmith, Sons David Kaperak and Timmy Highsmith, a daughter, Barb Baker, and a sister, Gracie Drake, as well as a special friend Dale Lawson, and her faithful companion Yoyo. A memorial service will be held at DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 4:00 PM, with Rev. Jeff Lee officiating. Visitation is on Friday from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimers Association or the American Lung Association, in her memory.
