Shawn Anthony
Bohner
May 3, 1958 — Jun 9, 2026
Shawn Anthony Bohner, age 68, passed away after a brief, intense bout with cancer on June 9, 2026. He was born on May 3, 1958, in Point Pleasant Borough, NJ to Thomas Edward Bohner and Marguerite Virginia Durham Bohner. He graduated from Ellsworth High School (ME) in 1976 and then served his country in the United States Air Force. He began his computer science career in the Air Force, then transitioned to leading scientist and researcher positions at Ford Aerospace, the Software Productivity Consortium (now Systems and Software Consortium), GTE Labs, and MITRE Corporation. He was a Vice President at META Group, Inc (now Gartner Group) Syndicated Research Firm. A favorite saying of his was, “I want to be a teacher when I grow up.” He made that happen when he began teaching, first at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, then at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. For twenty-five years he taught graduate and undergraduate courses, published numerous research articles and books, and was active in many professional organizations and journal editorial boards.
Shawn was passionate about life and learning. He had an active mind that never turned off. There was always a new question to ask or a project to do or a person to help. He was a dedicated karateka of the Bushin Kan Dojo in America, a Yudansha achieving the rank of Kyoshi and posthumously acknowledged in rank and title of Shichidan and Hanshi. He dearly loved working with his students and seeing them succeed in school and in life. He thoroughly enjoyed each of his career experiences and gave his all to doing his job well. He absolutely loved and was loved by his wife Ruth, daughter Ariel and son Nicolas. Most of all he loved his Lord Jesus Christ and lived a life happy and full of hope for even better things to come.
Cremation was entrusted to DeBaun Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at World Gospel Church, 900 Gardendale Rd. Terre Haute, IN on July 11, 2026, with visitation at 2 pm and a service at 4 pm.
