Like a Song Unfinished

Scott Harvey Morgan, just 58, of Youngstown Indiana, died unexpectedly last Thursday night. Like a song unfinished, his life was cut much too short, leaving too soon the people and dreams and little tasks that make a life.  Friends to talk with, meals to cook, games to watch, children to entertain, dogs to pet, songs to play, and so many jokes and stories to tell.

Witty and playful, Scott could make anyone laugh. He was easy with a story and generous with praise and gratitude. He loved his friends, loved listening to music, playing guitar, watching the Colts and the Cubs and Nascar. He was always ready for a good talk, a good show, a good time.

The son of Earl and Lois Morgan, Scott grew up in Prairieton playing in barns and in creeks, driving go carts and dirt bikes. The youngest of three, Scott was surrounded by love, music, humor, and sweet memories his entire life. Among so many things, from his father he learned to tell a story, to be funny, and to laugh. From his mother he learned to nurture, to work hard, and to cook. Scott spent many years of his life as a cook, adding tenderness, appreciation, and happy friendship to his dishes.

A musician and loyal supporter of local musicians, Scott loved to play guitar. He spent his free hours learning new licks and jamming with family and friends. Music was his true passion, gave him true joy, inspiration, and comfort. "A powerful and lovely thing" he called music. It changed his life.

Father to Courtney, Lucas, and Sarah Morgan. Like a father to Jamie and Nick Goodman. Grandfather to Lexi Hardey, Caleb Jones, Zach Morgan, Andrew Morgan, and Samantha Morgan. Like a grandfather to Braydin Johnson, Brylee Goodman, and Kyran Goodman. Brother to Cindy Morgan, Lou Ann and Donnie Pence. Dear friend, like family, of so many, especially Barbara Reynolds and Allen Oxendine.

Fitting his love of a good party, in lieu of a formal service the family is hosting "Festivus for the Rest of Us" on Friday, November 10 at 3:00 at the home of his sister Cindy at 255 Terra Vista Drive in Terre Haute. One last party, one last jam session, a celebration of his life. Instruments and good stories are welcome. Instead of flowers, please send donations in Scott's honor to Prairieton United Methodist Church designated to the audio/visual fund.

Hello there my old friend

Not so long ago it was till the end

We played outside in the pouring rain
On our way up the road, we started over again

You're living out dreams of you on top My mind is aching, oh lord it won't stop that's how it happened living life by the drop

Up and down the road in our worn out shoes Talking about good things and singing the blues You went your way and I stayed behind We both knew it was just a matter of time

No waste of time we're allowed today Churning up the past, there's no easier way Times been between us, a means to an end God it's good to be here walking together my friend

Living our dreams My mind stopped aching That's how it happened living life by the drop
