Sarah Juanita
Gokey
February 7, 1917 – June 17, 2019
Sarah Juanita Gokey, 102, of Terre Haute passed away June 17, 2019 at Southwood Healthcare. She was born on February 7th, 1917 to John and Margaret Gasaway in Mattoon, IL. She lived her life in Terre Haute, Indiana until she met the love of her life, Justin "Frenchy" Gokey and wed in 1950. The newlyweds set out on an adventure which moved them to Chicago, IL where they both found jobs and began their lives as Mr. and Mrs. Gokey. Sarah and Frenchy shared a passionate love for the Lord and grew together in their faith. She attended Bible Holiness for many years and was an active member of the church; serving the Lord was her main priority. After the death of her husband, Sarah returned to Terre Haute to live independently until she was unable to care for herself. She then found herself at Southwood Healthcare Center where she developed a multitude of friends. Sarah created even more smiles through her infectious laugh and witty phrases. Sarah was often visited by her close friend Mary Keller who was always selfless and always supportive. She appreciated all of the staff and loved her care team of skilled Nurses and CNA's. She had such a love for the entire Medical and office staff. While at Southwood Sarah befriended Charlie, the Social Worker, where they became the best of friends. Although Sarah and Frenchy did not have any children, they raised her nephew Jerry Wayne Carter, as their own. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; four sisters, as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation for Sarah will be held on Monday, June 24 from 11:00-2:00 with services starting at 2:00 PM. Reverend Kirkman will be officiating. Sarah will be laid to rest at Fairmount Cemetery in Rose Springs Illinois besides her "Sweetie" Frenchy. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donation be made to either the American Cancer Society or The American Heart Association. Online condolences may be left at DeBaunFuneralHomes.com
