Sara (Myers) Darts, aged 68, of Westfield, Indiana, left us on September 19th to cause a little less trouble here and, presumably, a ruckus somewhere in the afterlife. Sara was sugar, spice and everything nice – with a hefty dose of spice. She is survived by her son, Leo; her daughter, Emily; and three grandchildren, Kennedy, Kaleb, and Kate, whom she loved dearly.

Sara was a force to be reckoned with. She valued family, education, and helping others, and she taught her children many things in her 68 years, including the value of hard work, independence (sometimes against our will), how to be a good euchre partner (arguably one of the most important lessons), and how to give people a hard time in the most loving way.

She was a fierce advocate and spent her career as a respiratory therapist, first in hospitals and later in home healthcare. She cared deeply about people and believed in treating others with integrity, courage, loyalty, and equality.

Sara was also never one to pretend to enjoy something she absolutely did not enjoy. On one family vacation, Emily decided that the group should go hiking. Sara went along, likely because there was the promise of food and Diet Pepsi, but also because she loved her family and apparently loved them enough to suffer for them. Somewhere along the trail, she summed up her feelings about the experience with the words that will live in infamy:

“This SUCKS.”

And that, my friends, was Sara. Honest. Unfiltered. Hilarious without trying to be. She wasn’t easily fooled, and she wasn’t afraid to let you know exactly what she thought, whether with her face or her words. But underneath that strong personality was someone who loved fiercely and cared deeply.

She was an easy laugh, and making her laugh and smile was a joy. She passed that sense of humor down to both of her children, who will carry it along with countless stories, lessons, memories, and probably a few opinions they weren’t necessarily asking for.
