In Loving Memory of Rosetta Elaine Goodwin

Rosetta Elaine Goodwin of Indianapolis went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 30, 2026. She was born to Ray and Daisy Boling and grew up on a farm in Lewis, Indiana, where she developed the values and family bonds that remained close to her heart throughout her life. Rosetta absolutely adored her four older sisters, Ruth, Edna, Kathleen, and Martha. Each preceded her in death, and she carried her love for them throughout her life. Family was always important to Rosetta, and she leaves behind many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly, especially her nieces, with whom she shared a particularly special affection.

Rosetta is survived by her two sons, Rick (Sandy) Goodman and Scott Goodman; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and seven nieces and nephews. She was married to Gene Goodwin for 35 wonderful years, making their home in Farmersburg, Indiana, until his passing in 2019.

Rosetta was a remarkable woman with a brilliant mind and an extraordinary curiosity about the world around her. Although her formal education ended with high school, her thirst for knowledge never did. She was a voracious reader with an impressive understanding of medicine, politics, and current events. She had a phenomenal memory and an ability to comprehend complicated matters that often amazed those around her.

For more than 40 years, Rosetta faithfully kept a daily journal. Those journals became a treasured record of her life and an invaluable resource, particularly when it came to understanding medical matters involving herself and her family. And when her remarkable memory occasionally needed a little help, her journals were always there to fill in the details!

Family was at the very center of Rosetta’s life, especially her two sons. Her love and interest in their lives never diminished, even in her final days. Thanks to her impressive command of her smartphone, there was hardly a day that passed without a text message to Rick or Scott. She might be describing what she had for dinner, offering advice or helping with something going on in their lives, or keeping everyone updated on her latest medical news. She always found a way to stay connected and involved.

And then, of course, there was “The Google!” Rosetta’s faithful companion and trusted source of information. She never hesitated to ask it about matters both great and small, and it will miss her dearly. For the last five years of her life, Rosetta called Hellenic Senior Living home, where she developed many friendships and enjoyed the companionship of those around her. She was a beautiful woman who took pride in her appearance and loved looking her best, regardless of the occasion. She enjoyed visiting and socializing with friends, but was equally content spending quiet time in her apartment, reading, journaling, and watching her favorite stories.

Rosetta was a devoted wife to Gene, a loving aunt, and a caring friend to many. But above all, she was a wonderful mother. She took a genuine and unselfish interest in the lives of her sons, and her daughter in law, Sandy, always wanting to know how they were doing, what was happening in their lives, and how she could help. That interest, concern, and love continued right up until the very end.

Her sons will especially miss those daily messages, her advice, her questions, her wonderful memory, and simply knowing that Mom was always there.

She will be deeply missed by her sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

Rest in peace, Mom.

We love you.
