Roberta "Bobby"
Long Hedge
Dec 23, 1941 — Aug 2, 2026
Terre Haute
Roberta (Bobby) Long Hedge, daughter of Robert and Marie Long passed on August 2, 2026. She was born on December 23, 1941, in Terre Haute, Indiana where she lived for the majority of her life. She was a graduate of Honey Creek High School. She is survived by her only child Jodi Hedge.
Bobby worked 23 years at Midland Glass, and she worked 47 years in area factories. Although my mother was a proud factory worker and union member, she was so much more than that. She could work twice as hard as any man standing next to her, according to her father. She was a beauty all her life. Back in the day, my mother could out dance any woman in Vigo County…according to my mother and her cronies around the kitchen table. My mother was an incredible friend. If my mother had your back, you knew it and so did everyone else. She was loyal to a fault. At the end of my mother’s life, she owed no one. Not a bill nor a person. Standing here it is clear there are many of you that still owe her.
Roberta was fiercely independent and refused any form of care or concern without assuring payment. Being loyal and fiercely independent is something we should all strive for. It is also something we should return to embracing as a society as well as embracing our elders without expecting anything in return. Our seniors are some of the most vulnerable members of the community. We all need to be more vigilant-whether it’s your family, your neighbor or a familiar face. When you see something or even suspect something, say something. Report senior abuse at (800) 482 8049. The abuse you avoid could be your own. Thieves and liars don’t have a look; they can be anyone.
There was a home going celebration at DeBaun Springhill chapel followed by burial at Mt. Pleasant on August 5, 2026.
In lieu of flowers my mother’s favorite charities were no kill animal shelters, low cost spay and neuter clinics and Wounded Warrior Project.
