Robert E.
Stiller
Robert E. Stiller, 84, of Terre Haute, died on November 2nd in Regional Hospital from heart complications. He was born on June 8, 1932 in Crawfordsville, Indiana to Cornelous and Irene (Swank) Stiller. Bob was preceded in death by his son, Rick, in 1974 at the age of 16. Bob is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jo Ann (Moore) and daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Dan Mills.
Bob had a lifelong devotion to education. He was a graduate of Crawfordsville High School and completed his undergraduate study at Wabash College. He received his BS and MS in Education and his Ed. A. in Secondary Education all from Indiana State University. Bob began his teaching career at Carmel High School in the late 1950's and taught five years in Columbus, Indiana. In 1962, he began teaching in Terre Haute at Woodrow Wilson, where he also served as Dean of Boys. When Terre Haute North High School opened its doors in 1971, Bob began teaching Vocational Drafting there and did so until his retirement in 1992.
Bob served in Korea with the U. S. Army. He was with the 92nd Armored Field Artillery as Survey Section Chief in Company A. Sergeant Stiller was honorably discharged on March 15, 1955.
Bob's memberships included the Vigo County Retired Teachers and Indiana Retired Teachers Association. He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon and Phi Delta Kappa. Bob was an active member of First Baptist Church who proudly served on the Trustee Board and was Chairperson of that Board several times. He also enjoyed being an usher and had been one for many years.
Bob enjoyed woodworking and especially making projects on his scroll saw. His beautifully crafted clocks and other wood crafts, which he created and gave lovingly as gifts to friends and family, are now cherished by all who have them. Bob had a sense of humor that carried him through all of life's challenges; a quality that never left him and will be missed.
Per his request, cremation was chosen and a graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 9th in Roselawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Bernie Jackson officiating. DeBaun Funeral Home (Springhill Chapel) assisted with arrangements.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bob's memory to the First Baptist Church, 4701 Poplar Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, 47803; to the Carl S. Riddle Scholarship Fund or to the charity of their choice.
