Robert M. Neal (Bob), born on July 24, 1927 in Sullivan, IN, went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 25, 2024 after a brave battle with cancer. Bob, lovingly known as Papa, passed away peacefully with his family beside him. He was 97 years old. Bob was preceded in death by the love of his life Janis Darlene (Nene) Neal; his parents Paul and Kiva Neal; his sisters Virginia Neal, and Pauline Stone and her husband Gerald; his brother William (Bill) Neal and his wife Julia; brother in-law Robert Hawkins and his wife Ann; and sister-in-law Wanda Bennett. He is survived by his sons Robin Neal and Mark Neal (Angela); and his daughter Jan Heller, all from Terre Haute, IN. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Shawna Lucas, Wesley Neal (Aleah), and Alex Heller (Kristal), all from Terre Haute, and Aaron Heller (Hannah) from Nacogdoches, TX; his sister-in-law Sheila Paschal (Randy) of Anderson, IN; and brother-in-law Jerry Hawkins (Rita) of Sullivan, IN. Bob has 8 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his dear friend Marietta Cannaday. Bob proudly served his country as a United States Marine where he was stationed in China. After working over 37 years Bob retired from Allstate. He and his wife spent their retirement traveling and enjoying their grandchildren. Bob was devoted to his family. He was happiest when he had his family around. He was also devoted to his church family. Bob loved his church family and cared for each member. He was an Elder at East Jackson Street Church of Christ and in 1980 when Westside Church of Christ was built, he also served as Elder there, both located in Sullivan, IN. In 1985 he and his family placed membership at Southside Church of Christ in Terre Haute and where he again served as Elder until he resigned to take care of his ailing wife Darlene. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 16, at Southside Church of Christ located at 4117 S. 7th St., Terre Haute, IN. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. with the Celebration of Life to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Camp Wabashi, 3535 E. Harlan Drive, Terre Haute, IN 47802.
