Robert Kenneth Brown, 87, of Terre Haute passed away in his home on May 30, 2013. He was born on July 9, 1925 in West Terre Haute to William F. Brown and Lena F. (Rogers) Brown. Robert was a lifetime member of the Lawton-Byrum Post #972 VFW, Teachers Association, and NEA (National Education Association). Robert was employed at Clay County and Vigo County School Corporation for 30 years. He taught Math and coached all sports. He retired from Chauncey Rose as a Counselor. He enjoyed dancing, writing music, poetry, camping, playing bridge, traveling, singing, and watching the Cardinals and Colts play. Most of all, Robert was a caregiver to his family and friends. Robert is survived by his wife of 65 years Berniece M. (Cooley) Brown; daughter Linda Walker; son Jeffrey R. Brown; grandson Christopher Lacefield, his wife Erin; and great grandchildren Gavin and Ava. He is preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings William F. Brown, Jr., Thomas B. Brown, Louise M. Tryon, Wilma J. Tennis, and Joan McDowell. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Callahan—DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave. Pastor Jimmy Moore will be officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Lawton-Byrum Post #972 VFW. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society.
