"Bob" Walters
Robert Lee "Bob" Walters, 91, of Farmersburg, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017. He was born in Riley, on March 11, 1926, to Claude and Nola (Edds) Walters. Bob was a veteran of World War II, serving in the China/Burma/India Theater as an MP on the Burma Road. He returned to active duty during the Korean War. During most of his working life he was a sheet metal worker, a member of Sheet Metal Workers Union 20. He worked internationally on jobs in India, Chile, Venezuela, Honduras, Iran, and Canada. He served faithfully as an active member and deacon of Friendship Baptist Church, and in community service as a youth baseball coach, Boy Scout leader, and on the Farmersburg town board. Bob and Thelma supported and visited missionaries around the world. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Eileen Cottom Walters, married April 22, 1950. He is survived by three sons and their families: son, Gary (Patty), grandson, Ryan (Ange) and great-grandchildren, Miranda, Austin, Jaiden, and Cameron, granddaughter, Cherie Lowe (Brian) and great-granddaughters, Anna and Zoe: son, Robert (Teri), granddaughter, Taylor Denyer (Stuart), great-granddaughter, Evelyn, grandson, Robbie (Jordan); and son, Mike (Bonnie), grandson, David (Bekah) and great-grandchildren, Tabby, Ruthie, Mikey, and Gabe, granddaughter, Chrissy Waddups (Josh), grandson, Steven, grandson, Tyler (Kristina) and great-granddaughter Adelyn. Also, surviving are brother, Paul Walters and sister-in-law Mary Taylor; and brother-in-law, Roy Cottom. Funeral service will be at DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Robert Joe Walters officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Cemetery with military honors. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, March 21, 2017, from 4 until 8 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Indy Honor Flight, or your local church or favorite missionary.
