Rita Kay Barton, 65, of Terre Haute passed away on March 15, 2014. She was born November 11, 1948 in Washington, IN to Wayne Walters and Ruth (VanArsdall) Walters, and was raised in Farmersburg. She retired from Vigo County School Corporation. Her teaching career spanned over 30 years and included Sacred Heart, Bridgeton, Riverton Parke, IVY Tech, and Terre Haute South Vigo High School. Rita and her late husband were were members of the Gold Wing Road Riders motorcycle association, and enjoyed listening and dancing to Rock-n-Roll. Rita was more recently a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, where she attended with her granddaughters, and enjoyed volunteering and donating to local children's organizations. Rita was preceded in death by her husband Richard W. Barton Jr. in 1998, her parents, and a brother, Mike Walters. She is survived by her children Ryan Barton, his wife Kelli, and Angela Barton; granddaughters LeeAnn Curtis and Samantha Curtis; great grandson Kale Earl; siblings Dale Walters, Marsha Myers and Michaelle Downey; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. in DeBaun Funeral Homes Springhill Chapel, 85 East Springhill Drive. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Riley. Pastor Aaron Wheaton will be officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home the evening before on Monday March 17, 2014 from 4:00p.m. until 8:00 p.m..
