Richard L.
(Dick) Wheatfill
October 31, 1940 – June 28, 2025
Richard L. "Dick" Wheatfill, 84, of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Dick was born on October 31, 1940, in Terre Haute, where he spent his life building a legacy rooted in hard work, integrity, and family.
Dick spent his career in the transportation industry, where he was known for his relentless work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. In 1982, he founded his own business, RBW Transportation, which became a family endeavor alongside his wife and sons. Dick was immensely proud of his company and loved to talk transportation with anyone, anytime.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Beverly; his sons Rick (Mary Jane) and Brad; his grandchildren Bridget (Mannly), Jonathon, Ricky, and Emily; and his great-granddaughter, Audrey. He is also survived by many nephews, extended family members, and friends who felt like family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Mildred, and his sister, Carol.
More than anything, Dick enjoyed spending time with his wife and family—he never missed a moment to be present, supportive, or share a laugh. He never met a stranger, and his easy charm, warm demeanor, and firm handshake made a lasting impression wherever he went.
Dick graduated in 1958 from Concannon High School and went on to earn a degree from Indiana State University.
He loved playing golf, traveling the country, and hitting the open road in his RV or on his motorcycle. A true adventurer at heart, Dick had a long list of hobbies over the years and was a proud car enthusiast who always appreciated a well-built machine. Though his travels slowed in recent years, he never lost his curiosity, his hands-on spirit, or his sense of humor.
Visitation will be held at DeBaun Funeral Home on Wednesday July 2 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Dick's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Children's Hospital.
