Obituary

Phil Johnson, 73, of Terre Haute passed away after a courageous 3-year battle with lymphoma due to Agent Orange.  He was born October 2, 1950 in Paris, Illinois to Glenn Johnson and Emma Eveland Johnson. Phil enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley Davidson, and cutting down trees to chop firewood.  He was a member of Maryland Community Church and belonged to a prayer group with David Bailey, Jim Brown, and Keith Gaddis.  Phil served his country in the United States Army in L.Z. Stinson, Chu Lai, Vietnam.  He was a graduate of Paris High School, DeVry Technical Institute, and obtained his bachelor's degree in business from Indiana State University.  Phil was also a licensed Commercial Electrical Contractor, Federal Communications operator licensee, and had his CDL to drive a propane semi.  He was the General Sales Manager for WTHI for most of his professional life.  Phil was also a former station manager for WPRS and worked in the corporate offices of NAL.  His family and especially the grandchildren were his biggest accomplishment and greatest joy.  He was very much loved and will be missed by many. Phil will be remembered for his quiet demeanor and strong will.

Phil is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Sara Johnson, daughter Laurie Sands and son-in law Patrick; and grandchildren Benjamin Phillip Sands and Emma Sara Sands, all of Downers Grove, Illinois; brother Steve Johnson, and sister-in-law Connie Griffin.  He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Glenn Allen Johnson, in-laws Robert and Marjorie Gale, and brothers-in-law Donald Lee Gale and Danny Gale.

Honoring Phil's wishes, there will be no services. DeBaun Funeral Home was entrusted with his care.  Online condolences may be made to www.debaunfuneralhomes.com.
