Peggy Lou Anderson Brown, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on the evening of Tuesday, November 5, 2019. She was born at home in Terre Haute, behind the former Henley's Greenhouse, on April 1, 1934. The day was both April Fool's Day and Easter that year. She was the only child of William Cecil Anderson and Ruth May Whallon Anderson. Peggy married John Lawrence Brown on June 18, 1954 and he preceded her in death on January 17, 1999. Survivors include daughter Kathy Modesitt (Rick) of Terre Haute and son Lawrence Jay Brown (Anne) of Charlotte, North Carolina. She is also survived by grandchildren Luann Modesitt (fiance Erik Heng and son David) and John (JR) Modesitt of Terre Haute, Emily Brown of Sanford, North Carolina, and Christopher Brown of Raleigh, North Carolina. Also, special friend Jean Wilkinson of Terre Haute. Peggy loved all animals, especially Miniature Schnauzers, and was greeted at the bridge by furangels Noelle I, Noelle II, Bonnie, Sophie, Schotz, and Mollie Mae. Peggy always enjoyed being asked when she retired. She worked as a secretary for Fred Short after graduating from Wiley in January of 1952 and stopped working before her daughter was born. Even though she didn't work for a paycheck during her lifetime she worked tirelessly and with love for her family, church, and non-profit organizations. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church for over 70 years joining the former Westminster Presbyterian Church in junior high school. Through the years she was a dedicated member of Westminster Presbyterian and Unity Presbyterian congregations serving both with her love, time, talent, and treasure. Officially it will be noted that she served as an Elder and Trustee. Unofficially she would do what ever needed to be done whether it was serving as the church financial secretary, organizing circle, using her creative talents to help with Bible School, donating to church causes, or participating in church talent shows. Singing in the choir was one of the biggest joys in her life. Even though the extent of her musical training was playing the triangle, she said she could always find a note in the chord while singing. Her alto voice was beautiful. Outside of church she was dedicated to helping others. Peggy was a volunteer for the Vigo County Historical Society and Church Women United. While her granddaughter participated in the Terre Haute South Band, she was a band grandma helping to maintain uniforms, decorating the band hallway before contests and cheering for the band and indoor drum line at contests. For years she bowled with a group of friends who supported each other through the many changes in their lives. Peggy also supported the Terre Humane Society and spent countless hours as an independent transporter helping to drive cats, dogs, turtles, birds, and even a pig to safety. Peggy opened her home to foster and overnight animals giving them a safe place to stay on their way to their furever homes. The family would like to thank VNA Hospice of the Wabash Valley for their care of mom. The love and care of Angie, Misty, and others was comforting to Peggy and her family. We would also like to thank the congregation of Unity Presbyterian Church for their cards, visits and prayers. Private graveside services will be held on November 20, at Mount Pleasant Cemetery with Pastor Andrew Black officiating. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, November 20, at Unity Presbyterian Church, with visitation at 5:00 and the celebration at 6:00 led by Pastor Andrew. The
