Patricia Ann (Pat) Smith, 82, of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Thursday, September 1, 2016. She was born July 22, 1934 to Edward and Alice (Shanahan) Carrington in Waterbury, CT. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Pat had a wonderful sense of humor and giving heart. She was the center of her family, guiding with unconditional love. Pat is survived by Ernest Smith, her husband of 62 years; daughters Marilyn Smith (James Farley) of McCordsville, IN, Kathleen O'Neal (Steven) of Weatherford, OK, and Linda Smith (Mike Dillon) of Atlanta, GA; her son, Thomas Smith (Penny) of Rock Hill, SC; grandchildren Stacy, Trisha, Michael, Alaina, David, Christopher, Amber, and Amani; great-grandchildren, Isaac and Cameron. She is also survived by her sister Mary Lou Maddaloni (Andrew) and several nieces and nephews. Her parents and her sister, Rosemary Leyh, preceded her in death. Pat will be missed more than words can say, but her light will shine forever in the hearts of those who love her. Her family invites you to join in celebrating Pat's life at a gathering on Saturday, September 10 between 4 and 6 p.m. at DeBaun Springhill Chapel in Terre Haute, IN. If friends so desire, contributions in Pat's honor may be made to the local Catholic Charities of Terre Haute.
