Oliver E. Woods, Jr., 83, of Brazil, passed away Sunday January 8, 2017 at 2:45 pm in his residence. Oliver was born January 21, 1934 in Vigo County to Ernest O. Woods and Thelma (Phipps) Woods. He is survived by his wife, Delores (Summers) Woods; children: Oliver Woods III (Nancy), Ricky Wood (Pam), John Wood (Sharon), Paula Walters (John), Loretta Vencel (Andy); a step-daughter, DeAnna Newport; a granddaughter that he raised as a daughter, Mandy Newnam (Patrick); a sister, Joyce Julian (Cliff); 15 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Doris Jean (Wade) Woods. Oliver was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War, a life member of the VFW Post #1127, and a member of the American Legion Post #2. He was also in the Wabash Valley Country Music hall of Fame. Visitation will be Wednesday January 11, 2017 from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm in DeBaun Springhill Chapel with funeral services at 3:00 pm in the funeral home with Dr. Charles Cooley officiating. Burial will be in Durham Cemetery with Kriestenstein Post #104 American Legion providing military honors. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to either Heart-2-Heart Hospice or the Clay County Humane Society
