Norman E. Drake, 97, lifelong Sullivan County resident, went to be with the Lord and reunited with the love of his life, Rachael, on June 27, 2015. He was born on March 7, 1918 to Arthur and Mabel (Chambers) Drake. Mr. Drake was a lifelong farmer and also had been a bus driver for the Northeast Sullivan School Corporation. He also for many years had a business delivering lime and fertilizer to other area farmers. For nearly 50 years he worked at the Indiana State Fair. He was a member of the Fairbanks Missionary Baptist Church. On August 27, 1938 he married Rachael Drake and they celebrated 62 years of marriage until her death on March 26, 2001. He is survived by his two children and their spouses, Dixie and Dale Means of Florida; and Daryl and Shawnee Drake of Fairbanks; his grandchildren Kevin Means and wife Betty, Angela Grimble and husband Tom, Anissa Mayhew and husband Peter, Jennifer Drake, and Scott Drake and his wife Katie. There are nine great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Mervin Drake, Lloyd M. Drake, and Wayne Drake. Funeral services will be held at DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Larry Gilaspy officiating. Burial will be in Pogue Cemetery. Calling hours will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. For those who chose, memorial contributions can be made to the Fairbanks Missionary Baptist Church in his memory.
