Michael Robert Elmore, 84, of Terre Haute passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2026. He was born in Springfield, Illinois on July 25, 1941, to Robert J. Elmore and Louise Flamini Elmore. Michael graduated from Cathedral Boys Catholic High School. He then went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Loyola University Chicago. Michael earned his Master’s degree in Spanish and a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, as well as a PhD in Psychology from Indiana State University.

After graduating from Loyola, Michael served with the Viatorians in Mexico and Colombia. He then married his wife, Connie, in 1973. They moved to the Terre Haute area in 1976, where he served as the Director of English as a Second Language at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College. Together, they owned and operated a private school teaching English as a Second Language in the 80’s and 90’s. After earning his Master’s in Therapy, he served as a psychologist at Hamilton Center until his retirement. His educational accomplishments led him to many wonderful opportunities throughout his life.

Michael is survived by his children, Jennifer Dawson (Michael), John-Michael Elmore (Tara), brother David Elmore (Sue), sister-in-law Pam Elmore, sister-in-law Margarita Castro de Ramirez, and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family in Colombia, Canada, Spain, Switzerland, and the United States. He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife Connie Elmore, brother Mark Elmore, brother-in-law Juan Castro, brother-in-law Humberto Ramirez, sister-in-law Bertha Raquel Castro de Maurice, and brother-in-law Pierre Maurice.

Michael was an advocate for the poor, the marginalized, and the vulnerable. It was at the core of his philosophical and religious views. Because of this, he dedicated his life to teaching and helping others. Michael was active in the River City Arts Association and Wabash Valley Art Guild. He was a very talented painter and created beautiful art that will be forever cherished by his family.

Visitation will be at 10am on Monday, July 27th at the Church of the Immaculate Conception at St. Mary-of-the-Woods, followed by a service at 11am. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. DeBaun Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements.
