On this day of July 25, 2022, Michael "Mike" D. Cowden, Sr. went to be with the Lord, after passing away at Union Hospital.  He was surrounded by his loving children.  He was a proud Army veteran and a member of the VFW 972 Terre Haute.  Mike worked at Wabash Valley Fiber Box for many years in the maintenance department until they closed.  He then went to work at Health South in the maintenance department where he retired from.  He loved his family dearly.  He enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports.  Mike also loved watching his granddaughter race her quarter midget car.  He was a proud member of the THQMA and was an avid NASCAR fan.  He will be missed dearly.

Mike was born in Terre Haute on March 28, 1941, to William and Sarah Cowden.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Martha "Ruthie" Cowden, his parents, and sisters Joyce Phelps and Susie Cowden.  He is survived by daughter Michelle "Shelly" McCollum (David), son Michael Jr. (Megan), grandchildren Chelsea Richards (Frank), Darrell Orman III (Mikki), David McCollum, Jr., Audra Cowden, Brittany Perez, and Megan Orman; and great grandchildren Jesiah, Noah, Maddilynn, Kenydi, and Xander.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at DeBaun Springhill Chapel.  Service will be Friday, July 29, 2022 at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m.  Brittany Perez will officiate.  Burial will follow at Highland Lawn Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to either the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Association.
