Melva Jane Knight, 86 of Terre Haute passed away peacefully on February 26, 2017 at Union Hospital with family and friends around to comfort her. She was born in Clark County, Ill to Dorothy Clouse Gilbert on January 26, 1931. Her husband Arthur Knight passed on November 24, 1995. Melva worked at Quaker Maid and Hooks Drug Store, where she retired in 1993. She is survived by two sons, David Knight, Delbert Knight (Chistine) and daughter Jan Sparrow (Mike Dunfee); 9 grandchildren Mike Cunningham (Karen), Miranda Monzingo (Adrian), Melissa Sims (Alan), Darren Knight (Desiree), Debbie Spivey, Jenifer Sanders (Jerrod), Joe Jeffries (Karen), Jamie Kingery (Josh) and Mike Dunfee (Wendy); 22 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Virginia Russell of Farmersburg, Kate Wilson (Wayne) of Shelburn and Mary Shake of Florida. Her passions were reading, garden/yard work, having cookouts with family/friends and always thinking of others before herself. Melva is preceded in death by her mother (Dorothy), her husband (Art) 3 sisters, Margaret Hamilton, Phyllis Alumbaugh, Joan Edwards and brother Dick Gilbert. The family would also like to send a very special thank you to Dr Grace Walker and staff for their support and help. In honor of her wishes, cremation has been chosen. Memorial service will be held at DeBaun Funeral Homes Springhill Chapel at 7 p.m. Wednesday March 1st with visitation starting at 5p.m until service time.
