Mary Louise (Gilbert) VanScoyk, 94, of Terre Haute passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, August 26, 2016. Mary was born June 19, 1922 in Westfield, Illinois to Charles Martin Gilbert and Celia Edith Marie Stilwell Gilbert. Mary married her high school sweetheart, Earl Sylvester VanScoyk on August 10, 1942. He passed away just three months shy of their 70th wedding anniversary. Mary and Earl were looking forward to celebrating. Mary and Earl had two daughters, Sharla Ruth VanScoyk, who passed away in 1999 and Linda Louise VanScoyk Anderson. Mary worked at Schultz Department Store and the Indiana State University Bookstore. After retiring from Conrail, Earl and Mary spent 25 wonderful years in their Tavares, FL home. They returned to Terre Haute in 2007 to be near their family. Survivors include daughter and caregiver, Linda and her husband, Darrell Anderson; granddaughter, Amy and Darren Long; grandson, Darren and Laura Anderson; two great grandchildren, Hannah Long and Noah Long. In honor of Mary's wishes, cremation has been chosen with no services. Please light a candle in Mom's name or perform a random act of kindness in her honor.
