Martha Kay Melvin Abernathy, 72 of Terre Haute, went peacefully home with the Lord at 3:25 AM on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born in Terre Haute on April 13, 1943 to Raymond Melvin and Grace Lindley Melvin. Martha is survived by one son, Lupe Guevara, and three daughters; Marty Guevara Branum (Jeff), Katherine "Kathy" Abernathy, and Laura Abernathy Bass (David), and a step-daughter, Evelyn Guevara Gluckman. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Julie Boyce, Danny Boyce, Kaeli Rodriguez, Jacob Bass, and Alaina Bass, and one great granddaughter, Michaela Boyce. Other survivors include two sisters, Mary Melvin Deitz (Howard), and Linda Melvin Ganzel (Martin), and several nieces and nephews. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, and four brothers; Bill Melvin, Ted Melvin, Joe Melvin, and James Melvin. Martha loved the simple things in life, particularly nature and animals, and loved her family with all her heart. Funeral services will be held at DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Ken Coffman officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at DeBaun Springhill Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, in her memory.
