On this day of November 26, 2013 Martha "Ruthie" Cowden went to be with the Lord after passing away at Union Hospital. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends. Martha was a homemaker that never knew a stranger, and loved her family dearly. Martha will be missed dearly by her family and friends. She was born in Terre Haute on January 2, 1945 to Anna Louise McCullough and was adopted and raised by mother and daddy Martha Hiatt and Stephen Hiatt. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Martha Schoffstall. She is survived by her loving husband and soul mate of 50 years, Mike Cowden, one daughter Michelle (Shelly) McCollum and husband David, and one son Michael Cowden Jr. and wife Megan. Also surviving are her grandchildren; Chelsea Hollingsworth, Darrell Orman III, David McCollum, Jr., Audra Cowden, Brittany & Megan, as well as great grandchildren Jesiah, Noah, Maddilynn, and Kenydi. Other survivors include a sister, Edna Fry and husband Earl, and brothers Stephen Hiatt and wife MaryLou, Jim and wife Cheryl, Terry, Ronnie, and wife Angie, as well as several special nieces and nephews and one very close friend, Shelda. Funeral services will be held in DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 1:00 PM, with Paul Del Valley officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, November 29, 2013 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in DeBaun Springhill Chapel.
