Mark Allen Shaffer, 50, of Terre Haute passed away in his residence surrounded by his family on Monday August 25, 2014 at 4:34 p.m., after a short battle with lung cancer. He was born in Vigo County on September 25, 1963 to Leo Wayne Shaffer and Betty Jane (Smith) Shaffer. Mark was a member of Kings Harvest Four Square Gospel Church. He worked at Terre Haute Regional Hospital in surgery. Mark loved to serve his Lord. He volunteered and did ministry work at Meadows Manor East Nursing Home. Most importantly, Mark loved his children. They were his life. He read to them, took them fishing, and just enjoyed being a father. Mark never met a stranger. Mark was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Michelle Shaffer; brothers Kenneth Wayne Shaffer and Bob Shaffer. He is survived by his sons Nicholas Shaffer and Caleb Shaffer; wife Carol Shaffer; brothers Jim Shaffer, Leroy Shaffer, and Ronald Shaffer; sisters Doris Williams, husband Daniel, Annie Bernie, Margaret Swank, Vickie Joy, Darlene Unger, husband Dick, Stephanie Rusin, and Jane Shaffer; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00a.m. Thursday, August 28, 2014 in DeBaun Funeral Homes Springhill Chapel, 85 E Springhill Drive. Rev. Dennis Leek will be officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 from 4:00p.m. until 8:00p.m.
