Obituary

Marjorie A. Bird ,77, GOT to join the Lord and her grandson, Cam, at 3:44 am on Thursday, October 24, 2013 after enduring many years of pain. She was born Feb. 22, 1936 in Palestine, IL to Louis and Elsie Dudley. She graduated from Riley High School in 1954. Marge married James W. Bird on November 22, 1955 and was about to celebrate their 58th anniversary. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her family was always her first priority. Marge worked as a secretary at Best Way Trucking and as Paul Pfister's secretary at Pfister's Realty. She then began work as a secretary at the School of Technology at Indiana State University. She worked her way up to Administrative Assistant to the Dean of the School of Technology and enjoyed working with three deans there. She assisted with the plans and realization of many projects including the new School of Technology building, the Gristmill at Fowler Park, and the John T. Myers Technology Building. She most enjoyed her interactions with the students though. She retired after 31 years at Indiana State University in 1998. Since her retirement she dedicated most of her time to her family. Her health declined steadily but she never let the pain deter her from living. She was always there when anyone needed her. Throughout Marge's life, she loved artistic endeavors. She loved painting, sewing, crocheting, quilting, both growing and arranging flowers, and cake decorating. She loved music, theater, fishing, camping, and golf. She learned to love Quarter Midget racing (dirt and all), football, basketball, baseball, and soccer through her grandsons' activities. She was always willing to try new things and embraced new technology in her life, especially her microwave and computer. She delighted in keeping track of old friends and family on Face Book and email. Marge is survived by her loving husband, James W. Bird of Terre Haute; her daughter, Pamela (Langenfeld) Bird of Terre Haute; her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jane Bird of Fishers, IN; and her grandsons Cole Langenfeld of Terre Haute, and Matthew and Andrew Bird of Fishers, IN. She is also survived by her sisters Karen Dudley and Sandy Nuckles of Indianapolis and Shirley Carr of Augusta, GA; her brother and his wife, James and Evelyn Dudley of Baltimore, MD; her brother-in-law Jerry Nibert of Crown Point, IN; her brother-in-law and his wife, Richard and Nancy Bird of Riley, IN; and her husband's nephew and his wife, Chet and Barb Larkins of Riley, IN. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Marge was preceded in death by her precious grandson and buddy, Cam Langenfeld; her parents; her brother, Richard Dudley; her sister, Linda Nibert; her brother-in-law, Carl Carr; and her nephew Steven Carr. Visitation will be Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 at DeBaun's Springhill Chapel from 10:00am – 2:00pm. Services will be at 2:00pm with Pastor Jeff Lee of Blackhawk Community Church officiating. Burial will be immediately following services at Oak Hill Cemetery in Riley, next to her grandson. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations to be made to the Cam Langenfeld Memorial Fund at the funeral home or at any branch of the Terre Haute Savings Bank.
