Marilyn Elaine "Abby" Ross Simmons, 68, of Terre Haute passed away at her residence December 13, 2017. She was born September 1, 1949, in Lafayette, Indiana, to Ervin Talmage Ross and Lois Audrey Lawson Ross.
Abby worked as a dental hygienist for more than twenty years, serving at the offices of Dr. John R. Mast, D.D.S., and several other dental offices in and around Terre Haute. She was dedicated to her work and enjoyed seeing clean teeth and happy smiles.
Abby was an active member of the Central Presbyterian Church, where she participated in the life of the church and served on numerous committees. In addition, she served as the Chironna Day Nursery School administrator for many years. Abby was very active in her P.E.O. chapter as both a member and a leader, she was an avid walker, a bird enthusiast, and enjoyed working long hours in her gardens. Abby and her husband Fred loved to travel. Together they visited Vietnam, Russia, Europe, the Caribbean and other countries. Abby loved spending time with her family and throughout her life she had an immense love of animals.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Abby is survived by her husband, Dr. Fred H. Simmons, Jr. D.D.S., M.S.D.; sons, Greg Simmons, Andrew Simmons, and Scott Simmons; sister, Elizabeth Mulligan-Ross; nephew, David Mulligan; niece Leslie Mulligan; and brothers-in-law Richard Lloyd Simmons, and David Lee Simmons.
Cremation was chosen and a celebration of life will be held at 3:00 pm of Sunday, January 7th at Central Presbyterian Church, 701 Larry Bird Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47807. DeBaun Funeral Home assisted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Central Presbyterian Church or Best Friends Animal Society, www.bestfriends.org.
