Obituary

Lucy (Lucille) Bussard Pigg was born on September 30, 1928 in Everett, Pennsylvania, the youngest child of eight born to Joseph Andrew Bussard and Myrtle Nora Zimmerman Bussard. She attended Everett High School, then Pittsburgh State, and graduated from West Liberty State Teacher’s College in West Virginia with a degree in Dental Hygiene. While at West Liberty, she met her future husband, Warren Pigg, newly returned from a stint in the Army. They were married in 1950, and soon settled in Prairieton, Indiana.

While she missed the Allegheny mountains, Lucy loved her new home in Indiana, and specifically, her home in Prairieton. Grounded in faith and family, she was active in the Prairieton United Methodist Church, the Prairieton Young Homemakers, the Honey Creek Garden Club, and was scorekeeper for the Prairieton Little League/Pony League/Babe Ruth teams while Warren coached and her boys played. In later years, she was a member of Maryland Community Church and was active in the prison ministries program at the Terre Haute penitentiary, where she was named Volunteer of the Year in 2010. She was an avid sports fan and gardener, and after retiring, enjoyed travel and winters in Florida for many years.

Lucy is survived by her children Dan, David (Carolyn Gabbert) and Diane (Dennis Sewell), and grandchildren Andrew Nelson Pigg (Amka Lathkhamsing), Joseph Christian Pigg (Hannah Schwegman), John Warren Pigg (Lauriane Ducorneau), Anna Christine Conley, Zachary James Pigg (Brooke VerSteeg), Joshua David Pigg (Deepa Namburi), Abigail Cherith Pigg and Ruby Grace Pigg, and great-grandchildren Alex, Clive, Warren, Seth, Hannah, Gideon, Elena and Jaji, and numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her husband, Warren Pigg, and her siblings Harry Bussard, Freda Ritchey, Joseph Bussard, Ken Bussard, Pauline Freas, Maxine Greenberg, and Beatrice Feight, and by her daughter-in-law, Tamara Nelson Pigg.

Lucy was the 20th Dental Hygienist registered in Indiana and practiced for a few years until her children were born. She returned to work a few years later and enjoyed working for several dentists in Terre Haute over her long career.

The family would like to thank Anne Pettus, Cheryl Rogers, and Kristy German for taking excellent care of Lucy.
