Lucas Alan Kadel, 29, was born August 11, 1986 in Terre Haute to Kent Kadel and Susan (Snedeker) Kadel, passed away Wednesday January 27, 2016 in Seattle, WA unexpectedly from an underlying heart condition. He was their second child, with their first being his sister, Meredith Anne. Luke was almost taken at 2 weeks old when he developed Viral Myocarditis (inflammation of the heart). He was nursed back to health by Riley Children's Hospital and his family. Luke leaves behind his father, Kent Kadel and wife Donna; his mother, Susan McCallum and husband Brian; sister, Meredith Osburn and husband Nick and their children Sadie Rose and Griffin Leigh; aunt, Julia Gronkiewicz; uncles, Joe Kadel and Marty Kadel and wife Lois and their three sons and families; cousins, Nik Kadel and wife Kathy and their children Brian Kadel, Nikole Kadel, Konnie Kadel and family, Kurt Kadel and family, Jean Dreyer and family; step-families, Jacob and Christina Thomson (Ian, Dylan, and Archer), Shawna French (Shelby, Lily, and Bonne), Liz and Pete Ophoven (Taylor and Indiana), in addition is a blended Canadian family consisting of three step-brothers, a step-sister and 13 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Robert and Helen Kadel and Jenny and Charles Snedeker and uncle, Tal David Snedeker. He is also survived by two uncles on the Snedeker side and their families, and a hundred great friends who are like family. When he was younger he enjoyed skateboarding and all other sports. He began playing chess at Lost Creek Elementary and went on to become an excellent player who placed in many national tournaments during those years. He carried his love of chess through his entire life, teaching his niece and nephew, Sadie and Griffin, the game. Lucas graduated in 2005 from Terre Haute North High School and then Indiana State University with a degree in Language Arts and became fluent in German. He studied a semester at Giessen College in Germany; it was a highlight of his life. During this time, Lucas became a proficient music producer. He had a home studio and began to produce, write poems and songs. He worked with many artists and released a CD that was collaboration between him and many musical talents. He was an open mic night regular and also DJ'd weddings and other events. Luke loved to travel and had been all over the USA, Europe, and Australia. He loved to hang out with friends and family and to go fishing with his dad and others whenever possible. Lucas had worked at several Terre Haute restaurants, including, The Landing, Mogger's, and lately the Olive Garden and he always helped out when needed at the family business, Kadel's Hallmark. Luke was beginning a new part of his life, moving on January 8th to share an apartment with Donna's son, Jacob. They were brothers of another mother. Things were going great. Luke just started a new job at Hard Rock Café in Seattle and was on his way to greater things when he was suddenly taken from us. Visitation will be on Friday February 5, 2016 from 4:00 until 8:00 pm in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Dr. and Saturday February 6, 2016 from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm. Funeral services will be Saturday February 6, 2016 at 1:00 pm in the funeral home with Reverend Teresa Higus officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. The family suggests that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to either, the Sadie and Griffin Scholarship Fund, C/o First Financial Bank or to Riley Children's Hospital, Cardiology Department.
