LORETTA M. BROWN JOHNSON quietly passed away at her residence in Terre Haute, IN, July 10, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Loretta was born September 10, 1934 to the late Clarence and Josephine Brown in Terre Haute, IN and was one of eight children. She started a nursing career after graduating from the Union Hospital School of Nursing in 1955 and was a member of the honor society Phi Theta Kappa. As a Registered Nurse, Loretta's passion for the people in her care was always above & beyond the call of duty. She was a very respected and sought after nurse for 55 yrs., even the patients she took care of remembered her to this day. Loretta previously worked at Methodist Hospital, St. Vincent & the Veteran's Hospitals in Indianapolis, as well as Union Hospital, Regional & Charter Hospitals, in Terre Haute, IN. After retiring, she enjoyed spending time with her family that she loved above anything else and her special sister, Anna. Loretta enjoyed taking her children to historical places, museums, theme parks and State parks. In addition, she loved to oil paint but her favorite pastime was the insatiable love she had for reading books. Loretta was known to keep the Vigo County library very busy by reading as many as 25 books a week. Loretta was preceded in death by six of her siblings; sister Francis & Rink Smith, brother Floyd & Betty Brown, sister Eva & Howard Bumgardner, sister Anna & Larry Favre, sister Helen Elizabeth Brown, sister Ruthie Roads (brother-in-law Jack Roads living) Special friend Jim Coston. Loretta is survived by a brother Raymond Brown & sister-in-law Linda; her three children, Cherie Johnson Montgomery, Anita Johnson Bryant & fiancé Kevin Ward, and Brad Johnson & Christine Grayless; ten grandchildren, Chris Switzer & fiancé Lindsey Holderfield, Justin Stieglitz & wife Monica, Matty Stieglitz, Zack Johnson, Emily Switzer and fiancé Scott Lee, Katie Nash, Ian Johnson & friend Krystal Knepp, Sarah Stieglitz & friend Ethan Chandler, Michael Bryant and Bobby Bryant; seven great-grandchildren, Quentin Waggoner, Joe Stieglitz, Bella Fyfe, Blayne Johnson, Keegan & Danny Holderfield, and a special little one Kaden Nash. Special Friend Fred Johnson, several nieces and nephews. Loretta loved her family and people. She will always be remembered for her wonderful smile that lit up a room and for her big heart. Visitation will be July 15, 2004, from 4pm until 8pm at DeBaun Funeral Home, Springhill Dr., with funeral services on Wednesday July 16, 2014, at 11am in the funeral home. Burial will be at Highland Lawn Cemetery. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, for those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
