Leona C. Green, 97, of Terre Haute went to be with the Lord on August 27, 2016 at 1:15 a.m. She was born on January 12, 1919 in Clinton, IN to Andrew and Julia (Rataczyk) Mengel. She was one of six children and the sole survivor of her generation. She married Thomas L. Green, Sr. in November of 1945. Together they raised three children: Nancy Green Hill of Ohio who preceded her mother in death in 2008, Thomas L. Green, Jr., and his wife Diann of Terre Haute, and Dennis R. Green and his wife Catherine of Terre Haute. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ashley Green Schoen and her husband Damon of Terre Haute, John David ( J.D.) Hill and Alan J. (A.J.) Hill and his wife Lisa all of Ohio. Her great-grandchildren are Connor Schoen, Nicholas Schoen, and Maxwell Schoen, Kevin Mack Hill, Kaylee Alexis Hill, and a great-granddaughter on the way. She was also preceded in death by her brother Henry Mengel and his wife Janet, and her four sisters and their spouses Wilma and Clement Lindsey, Irene and Joe Mayrose, Helen and Oral (Nig) Keaton, and Freda and Homer Black. Mrs. Green was a 70 year member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at 4 p.m. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm. Calling will resume Wednesday at 9 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 10 a.m. with Father Dan Bedel officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
