Obituary

Leathia Blanche Newman, 87, of Terre Haute passed away on January 3, 2025 at Westminster Village in Terre Haute, IN. She was the eldest child of four, born on April 27, 1937 in Fort Wayne, IN to Robert H. Newman and Elenor Loraine (Bolin) Newman.

Leathia grew up in Richmond, IN and graduated from Richmond High School. She went on to earn a teaching degree from Indiana State Teachers College (renamed Indiana State University). She taught middle and elementary levels, and after many years, she retired.

Leathia also was a founding member of the World Gospel Church in Terre Haute. Through the years, she was very active on the church's Missions Committee and in the choir.

She is survived by her sister Nancy Elaine Harralson (Richard Allen). She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings Charlotte Hall and Herbert Anthony "Tony" Newman.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 10 am to 11 am at DeBaun Funeral Home (located at 85 E. Springhill Dr., Terre Haute, IN 47802). A funeral service will start at 11 am at the funeral home with Pastor Ben Burdick officiating. Burial will follow at the International Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery in Humboldt, IL at 3:00 pm EST.
