Vern grew up on a farm in Iowa then followed his love for Aviation in the Airforce where he earned his pilot's license. He spent the remainder of his working career teaching Aerospace Technology at Indiana State University. He was instrumental in developing their flight teams and worked many extra hours in the flight simulator to ensure the success of his students. Even after retiring, he continued to work with students in the flight simulator and flew for the Civil Air Patrol to continue to feed his love for Aviation and serve his community. His legacy of students includes many pilots across the US.
