Larry O. Akers, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, 72, of Terre Haute passed away Thursday April 27, 2017 at 10:48 pm in his residence. He was born June 15, 1944 in Terre Haute. Larry is a retired Terre Haute Police Officer. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Linda (Kirby) Akers; daughters, Sherry Hartleroad (Brad) of Terre Haute, Christy Taylor (Richard) of West Terre Haute, and Jenny Todd (Mike) of Terre Haute; sons, Larry Akers, Jr (Dawn) and Lee Akers (Mary) both of West Terre Haute; sisters, Pat Stewart, Sue Chandler, Kathy Akers, and Debbie Fell all of Terre Haute; brothers, Danny Akers and Eddie Akers both of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Ryan Hartleroad, Jessica Akers, Cody Akers, Kayla Switzer, Allison Mauk, Josh Todd, Natalie Mauk, Emma Todd, and Reagan Taylor; great grandchildren, Easton Hartleroad, Bryleigh Switzer, and Noah Akers and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Sharon Elliot and brothers, Jimmy Gilbert, Ronnie Gilbert and Dale Akers. Larry was a member of the former William Penn Lodge #727 F&AM and currently the 12 Points Lodge #769 F&AM, the Kerman Grotto, the F.O.P. Lodge #85 and he was a veteran of the US Army Reserves during the Vietnam War.. Larry really enjoyed spending time with grandkids and great grandkids. Visitation will be Monday May 1, 2017 from 4:00 until 7:00 pm in DeBaun Springhill Chapel with funeral services on Tuesday May 2, 2017 at 10:00 am in the funeral home with Pastor Rick Swan officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Roselawn Memorial Park. The Terre Haute Police Department will be providing an Honor Guard. Online condolences may be left at www.debaunfuneralhomes.com
