Obituary

Judith Kay McFadden passed away on Friday, June 12, 2026 after a long illness. The daughter of Max and Tressa Gaultney, she was born in Sandborn, Indiana, on September 14, 1941. She married James Wesley McFadden in 1959. They eventually settled in Terre Haute, Indiana, where she earned two bachelor’s degrees and a master’s degree from Indiana State University. She enjoyed her work as an educator for the South Vermillion School Corporation at Van Duyn Elementary School.

An avid traveler, she and Jim spent many summers exploring the United States and Canada in their RV. She also made sightseeing trips to Europe with her daughters and granddaughter. In her spare time, she devoted many hours to researching the family’s genealogy. She also enjoyed cheering on her grandchildren at sporting events, music programs, ballet recitals, and various school graduations.

She and Jim frequently shared they couldn’t have handpicked better spouses for their children. Judy is survived by her three children and their partners, Cary (Stacy) McFadden, Shelley (John) Macdonald, Carmen (David) Ellett; her four grandchildren, Kyle (Rachel) McFadden, Alexa (Daniel) Wallace, Tressa (Diego) Schaps, and Wesley Ellett; her five great-grandchildren, Rylee McFadden, Uriah, Evan, & Annalee Wallace, and Tatiana Schaps; several nephews and nieces also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Tressa; her husband, James; their infant daughter, Tina Marie; her three siblings, Robert Gaultney, Philip Gaultney, and Jane (Kenneth) Koenig.

Per Judy’s wishes, there will be no public services.
