John A. Hilderbrand, Sr., 65 of Terre Haute, passed away in his residence at 10:10 PM on Sunday, December 20, 2015. He was born in Urbana, IL on January 8, 1950 to Charles Edgar Hilderbrand and Eva Mae Hilderbrand, and attended Champaign Centennial High School, Parkland Jr. College, and the University of Illinois. He graduated in 1972 with a BS in Accountancy, and worked in Champaign for a few years before moving to Terre Haute in 1977. Once in Terre Haute, he worked with Engineering Systems of Indiana as controller for almost three years and then for Ivy Hill Packaging for just over 29 years. After semi-retirement, he worked at an online business, later then raising plants in his greenhouse to sell, and also served as Executive Director of the Taxpayers Association of Vigo County. He is survived by his son John Allan Hilderbrand, Jr. (JJ), and two grandchildren; Trenton Alexander Hilderbrand and Aria Grace Hilderbrand. He was preceded in death by his wife Abbie Lou Hilderbrand, and by two sisters, Ruth Batstone and Helen Faulkner. Memorial services are scheduled for 1:00 pm Tuesday January 26, 2016 in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Dr. The family will receive friends from Noon until 1:00 pm in the funeral home.
