John Richard Bennett, 74, of Terre Haute, passed away at 5:43 PM on Sunday, July 13, 2014 in Union Hospital. He was born in Vigo County on December 31, 1939 to Glenn Bennett and Fern Tindall Bennett. He was a devoted husband for 53 years to his wife Ramona "Mona" Brown Bennett—whom he married September 2, 1960. Also surviving are his five children; Vicki Kirkman (& husband Kyle), Jason Bennett (& wife Sara), Jaime Schroeder (& husband Shaun), Melanie Bennett, and Lori Whitecotten. Also surviving are his grandchildren; Jasper Kirkman, Chelsea Taylor, Sabrina Taylor, and Jeremy Montgomery, and a great granddaughter, JayDin Montgomery. In addition, he is also survived by a brother Robert Bennett (& wife Mary Jo), brother-in-law, Robert Brown (& wife Jo), and several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents and his mother–in-law and father-in-law, Mary Lou and Archie Brown. John attended Prairieton United Methodist Church and had worked at J. I. Case, Tri Industries, and Tri Aerospace. John was very close to and enjoyed being in the company of his co-workers. He was a long-time Purdue fan, loved Elvis, and enjoyed entertaining his family and friends with stories. He was a loving and active father who always participated in his children's sports and musical activities. He will be missed by all that loved and cared for him. Funeral services will be held in DeBaun Springhill chapel on Friday, July 18, 2014 at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday, July 17, 2014 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM in DeBaun Springhill Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to McMillan Adult Day Care Center in his memory. Online condolences may be left at: www.debaunfuneralhomes.com
