Janice E. Cole, 65, of Terre Haute passed away Thursday, December, 12, 2019 at Union Hospital. She was born April 21, 1954 in Terre Haute to Ira and Alta Smith. Janice was an art teacher for Southwest Parke School Corporation and had been a teacher for over 40 years. She was an award winning artist, active member of Sigma Delta Pi and Delta Kappa Gamma sororities, and a member of Maryland Community Church. Most of all, she loved spending time with family and friends.Janice is survived by her son John Donald Cole, daughter-in-law Merryn, mother Alta Mae Smith, sisters Kathy Lewton, Verna Burk and husband Don, and Angie Smith, and brother David Smith and wife Nina, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, David Cole, and her father Ira Smith.Visitation will be held Thursday, December 19, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at DeBaun Springhill Chapel. Services will follow visitation. Pastor Dan Gisel will be officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Janice's name to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, the Union Health Foundation, Delta Kappa Gamma scholarship programs (contact Addy Gideon at 7297 Rosedale Road, Terre Haute, IN 47805), or to Maryland Community Church.
