James "Jim" Marvin Nichols, 81, or Terre Haute passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at his home.  He was born January 31, 1942, in Vigo County, the only child of Gilbert Nichols and Ruth Adams Nichols.  Jim graduated from Gerstmeyer Tech High School.  He went to refrigeration school in Detroit and owned a trucking business. Jim retired from K-mart.  He enjoyed hunting pheasant, quail, and deer.  Jim loved farming and saved every dime he ever made.  He was a hard-working man and even when he wasn't working a job, he was working around home or helping neighbors.  Jim will be sadly missed by his wife and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of six years, Dorothy "Dot" R. Strain Nichols, daughter Michelle Engle (Mark), son Rick Nichols (Jerry Case), granddaughter Ariella Engle, sisters in law Carolyn Piety (Barrett), and Cindy Peters (Michael), and brother-in-law Robert Hughes.  Jim is preceded in death by his parents, sisters in law Nancy Hughes, Cathy Strain, and Brenda Peters, and brother-in-law Forrest Peters.

Visitation will be held Saturday, May 6, 2023 at DeBaun Springhill Chapel from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Service will begin at the funeral home at 2:00 p.m. with Joe Irwin, Sr. officiating.  Burial will follow at New Harmony Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be: Nathan Cooper, Michael Harmon, Barrett Piety, Michael Peters, and Jerry Case. The family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice for the love and care given to Jim.
