James "Jim" Dale Hicks, 90, of Pimento passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026. He was born on February 26, 1936, in Terre Haute to Hobert Hoovey Hicks and Reggie Mae Roberts Hicks. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He retired after 20 years of service. Jim later worked for the Vigo County School Corporation and the Parke County School Corporation as head custodian. He and Leona were long-time antique collectors and dealers. They owned shops in Rosedale and Terre Haute. Jim loved collecting antique clocks. His most prize possession and greatest treasure was his family. Jim was a simple man who thought of others first. He loved his family dearly. He and Leona were married on Christmas Day and Oregon Baptist Church 69 years ago. Together they created a strong and loving legacy.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife Leona Walker Hicks, son Mike Hicks (Carolyn), daughter Pam Brown (Mark), grandchildren Jess Wright (Doug), Brian Smith (Raissa), Amber Pettijohn (Kyle), Matt Smith (Steph), Joe Hicks (Niki), Nikki Hawkins (Chris), Jayson Hicks (Laura), Jayme Lear (Justin), Bryce Brown (Susan), Melissa Orman (Jason), and Andy Brown (Leah), step-grandson Jacob Issacs (Marianne), 29 great grandchildren, and his beloved Dachshund who was his companion and friend, Willow. He was preceded in death by his parents, four siblings, and his son Jay Hicks.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, at Oregon Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Service will begin at the church at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Brad Geary officiating. Burial will follow at Bethesda Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to www.debaunfuneralhomes.com.
