James A. Baker, 90, of Terre Haute passed away Tuesday May 14, 2013 in Springhill Village. He was born June 26, 1922 in Linton, IN to George Baker and Clemie (Wilcoxon) Baker. James had various jobs during his life, including; Terre Haute Brewery, Wholesome Bakery, General Housewares, Assistant Manager at Eastside Drive-In, Apple House, and parking lot attendant at Terre Haute First. He is survived by 2 daughters, Jackie Silver and her husband Steve of Terre Haute and Kim LaVallie and her husband Rick of Terre Haute; 4 grandchildren, Yuana Wright and her husband Danny of Terre Haute, Brent Silver of Terre Haute, Angela LaVallie of Kansas, and Eric LaVallie and his wife Carrie of Terre Haute; 4 great grandchildren, Myra Wright, Russell Wright, Tim Davis LaVallie, and Brayden Silver; 1 great great-grandson, Bentelee Wright; and a sister, Kate Liehr of Terre Haute. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane Baker whom he married November 7, 1942, she died February 2005; 3 sisters, Ivy, Cecil, and Pearl, and a brother, Bob. James was a veteran of the US Army during WW II, was active in St. Mark's United Church of Christ, Maryland Community Church and Union Christian Church. The loves of his life were his wife and family. He loved to grow beautiful roses and give them away at church and work. He also enjoyed lighthouses. Visitation will be Sunday May 19, 2013 from 4:00 until 8:00 pm in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Dr. Funeral services will be Monday May 20, 2013 at 10:00 am in the funeral home with Mark Grayless officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors provided by Lawton-Byrum Post #972 VFW.
