Irene Elliott, 84, of Terre Haute passed away peacefully Thursday, November 20, 2014 in Union Hospital. Irene was born February 28, 1930 in Oklahoma to Tony Kodrich and Louise (Godlar) Kodrich. She is survived by her husband, Gene Elliott; daughters, Anita Sue Modesitt and husband Tom of Brazil, IN and Gina Layer and husband Mark of Terre Haute; son, Bruce A. Elliott and wife Brenda of Brazil, IN; 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. Irene was a wonderful mother and grandmother who loved taking care of her grandchildren and making her special grilled cheese sandwiches for them. She loved to cook and sew, both which she was wonderful at. She loved spending time gardening and just being active outdoors. Many times when she couldn't sleep at night she could be found reading a book. She was an avid bowler for many years at Vigo Bowl. She also had been the bookkeeper for her husband Gene's gas station/ U-Haul business for many years. She was loved and will be missed by all of her family and friends. Visitation will be Saturday November 22, 2014 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm in DeBaun Funeral Home, Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Dr. with a memorial service at 1:00 pm in the funeral home with Pastor Deb Moore-Hardin officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Prairie Creek West Lawn Cemetery. The family suggests that for those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (envelopes will be available at the funeral home).
