Obituary

Howard Dewayne Hanley, 85, of Terre Haute passed away on Monday May 11, 2015 in his residence. He was born to Alpha and Pearl (Broshear) Hanley in Sullivan County on July 1, 1929. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nancy (Jones) Hanley; children, Stephen Hanley and wife Marlis of Boynton Beach, FL, Linda Donahue of Terre Haute, and Cathy Gage and husband Glenn of Cedar Grove, NC; grandchildren, Jessica Fiesel, Amy Lechtenberg, Jeremy Gage, Caitlin Hanley, Meghan Hanley, and Jillian Hanley, 10 great grandchildren, and brother Bob Hanley. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Peters. Howard was in the grocery business his whole life, starting with Standard Grocery and then owning his own stores in Linton, IN for 20 years. He loved working in his woodshop after retirement and many of his neighbors have enjoyed the fruits of his labors. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, a child of God and beloved by his family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Mt Pleasant United Methodist Church fellowship hall on Davis Drive at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 15, 2015, with Pastor Rick Swan officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 1:00 -2:00 PM. In honoring Howard's wishes, cremation has been chosen. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Gideon Society or Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Building Fund will be appreciated. Arrangements are under the direction of DeBaun Funeral Homes and Crematory.
