Herbert C. Krauch's obituary March 25, 1925 - January 24, 2016 Herbert Carl Krauch, 90, of Terre Haute, and formerly of West Lafayette, Ind. and Venice, FL, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016 at Union Hospital, in Terre Haute. He was born on March 25, 1925 in Indianapolis to Herbert C. Krauch and Lillian Compton Krauch. Herb was raised in Indianapolis. During his college career at Purdue University he enlisted in the Marine Corps where he participated in action at Peleliu, Palau Islands; Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands; and in China during WWII. He received his bachelor's in forestry in 1949 and his Master's in wildlife science in 1965 from Purdue. He was also a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. Herb's professional career included serving as forest manager and ranger and timber consultant in Georgia, Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio, and in plant and pest control for the USDA in Florida. He worked as a plantation manager from 1953-55 for Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in Liberia, West Africa. Herb returned to Indiana in the 1960's, and shortly thereafter Purdue named him the state's first cooperative extension and only wildlife specialist. He lived and worked in West Lafayette for 29 years before retiring as Assistant Professor Emeritus of Wildlife Science in 1987. He was a member of both the National Audubon Society and Wabash Valley Audubon Society. He was the recipient of many awards and citations, judged countless 4-H projects, was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, and espoused to "I did what I loved which enabled me to play along the way." One of his fondest memories was participating with his daughter, Susan Krauch Hayhurst, in the 2012 Greater Lafayette Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Herb's passion was his family, including his wife of 58 years, Ruth A. Weiss Krauch, who survives; his daughter (Terry); his stepsons John Bradley (Monica) and Robert Bradley (Yolanda) of San Antonio; five grandchildren, Christopher Bradley (Amy), Michael Bradley (Lisa), Timothy Bradley, Lillian Hayhurst, Hayley Hayhurst; and three great-grandchildren, Samantha Bradley, Madison Bradley, and Lauren Bradley. Funeral services to celebrate Herb's life will 1:30 p.m. Friday at DeBaun Funeral Homes, Springhill Chapel with Pastors Aaron Wheaton and Rick Swan officiating. Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 29 from 11:30-1:30 at the funeral home. Herb's wishes were to be cremated. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greater Lafayette Honor Flight, P.O.
