Helen L. Pickens, 101 of Paris, IL and formerly of Riley, IN passed away at 2:10 AM on Saturday, January 4, 2014 in Union Hospital. She was born in Vermilion, IL on June 14, 1912 to Kirk Reel and Sarah Alice Bandy Reel. Helen was a graduate of honey Creek High School, was a homemaker, & was a charter member of Riley Bible Church. She is survived by her daughter Marva Marshall & husband Bob, and three grandchildren, Kirk Pickens & wife Carrie, Jesse Marshall, and John Marshall & wife Courtney. Also surviving are two great grandchildren, Abigail Marshall and Addison Marshall. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Marvin Pickens, who passed away in 1996, and one sister, Ruth Guymon. Funeral services will be held in DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Monday, January 13, 2014 in DeBaun Springhill Chapel at 11:00 AM (E.S.T.), with Pastor Lynford Regier & Rev. Jeff Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Little Grove Cemetery in Vermilion, IL. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, January 12, 2014 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the funeral home. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either the Saint Bernice Fire Department or Cross World Missions, in her memory, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
